Aligner Biomechanics: Beyond the Plastic

September 4, 2025SOOG - UEES at Guayaquil, Ecuador

A lecture on the biomechanical principles required to plan more predictable, controlled, and efficient clear aligner treatments.

Aligner Biomechanics: Beyond the Plastic
On September 4, 2025, I presented the lecture “Aligner Biomechanics: Beyond the Plastic” in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The presentation explored why clear aligners should not be understood simply as plastic appliances, but as force-delivery systems that require proper diagnosis, digital planning, and biomechanical control. Topics included intrusion, expansion, space creation, interproximal reduction, movement staging, overcorrection, and the prevention of unwanted effects such as posterior open bite and loss of aligner tracking. The lecture combined scientific evidence, digital treatment planning, and clinical cases to demonstrate that treatment predictability depends on understanding forces, moments, and the correct sequencing of tooth movements.
